I see what is meant ... but my brain keeps whispering to me that i should read it in reverse; that the brain is the warder of memory.

Hmmmm, not always diligent, that warder. My brain often escapes custody and goes on the lam.
Rian thinks he means Memory protects us from things we do not want to or should not know.
