Heartsister has phoned to say that her mother is flying over from India.

"Oh?" asked Rian. "Why now?" Although I could guess.

"To say goodbye. But don't say anything. We don't want to look like a deathwatch."

Rian hung up wondering if indeed life had become simply waiting.
