Splitting Heirs

So. Rian had a big bucket (five gallons) of wet molasses sitting out on the newly painted and refurnished lovely front porch. The bucket was waiting to go to the stables. Also, the lid was on very tightly.

Aidan had been warned not to touch it.

Thank the small gods Rian did not haul it inside, I suppose.

So whilst Rian was gathering keys and money and mobile to go out Aidan decided to investigate the molasses bucket despite advanced warning. Somehow he managed to get the lid off AND knock the bucket over. Looking at the tide of orang-esque slime spilling out, he must have had a giant moment of regret and decided not to scream for mom but instead hide quietly behind a chair.

His sister who is seven and really should know better, decided to wait and see what would happen.

By the time Rian turned on the security alarm and made it out the front door, roughly half of the porch had been consumed by the Molasses Blob.

Rian has hosed down the brand new porch rugs.

I am trying to match the molasses stain with tea stains on the edges that were not molassasized, as the idea of spreading more molasses on the unstained parts makes Rian physically ill. The smell of concentrated molasses is not...scrumptious.

The tea seems to be quite weaker than the molasses. Perhaps coffee grounds mixed in?

Also, I am wondering if all the sugar hosed down onto the lawn will kill the poor grass.

Oh, dear. I feel your pain. Thank small fishes and their gods it wasn't inside.

It may kill your grass unless you dilueted it well with water. And why exactly did you have 5 gallons of molasses?

To bathe in?

says Rian, all innocence.

I can recommend blobs of woodstain, left on just long enough to stain but not long enough for the woodstain to dry. This has certainly given a nice droplets-of-tea-stained effect to the skirting boards and pine-panelled lower walls of our stairway. *innocence*

The mischief-making Pixies of Brown Staining Liquid seem to be extra busy at the moment.
